Thrive’s Educational Program receives $120,000 commitment from RBC Foundation’s Future Launch Initiative
Thrive has received a gift of $120,000 over three years from RBC Foundation’s Future Launch initiative for the continued support of Education Initiatives. The funding supports a continuum of educational supports ranging from foundational literacy & numeracy through to General Educational Development (GED) preparation and testing. In fact, Thrive operates the only GED preparation and testing program for youth in NL, and continues to achieve an impressive pass rate, consistently over 90%, which is well above the national average.
Thrive’s Education Initiatives are uniquely designed for youth in which classes are tailored to meet their individual learning needs. RBC Future Launch funding is expected to directly impact 300 youth with a focus on skill development, career exploration, transition supports to post-secondary and job readiness. In addition to academic supports, Thrive works one-on-one with learners to address non-academic challenges they may be facing such as homelessness, violence, mental health & substance use, family & peer conflict, etc. Education Initiatives recognizes that in order for young people to achieve success within the program they often require supports to deal with the many other life challenges that they face.
“RBC Foundation has been a great supporter of our program, and with this recent three year commitment of $120,000. it helps us ensure funding stability so that we can continue to focus on supporting the youth who rely on us.” Says Angela Crockwell, Executive Director, Thrive.
“We’re proud to be working with Thrive to deliver on the promise of RBC Future Launch,” says Brent Aitken, Regional Vice President for Newfoundland and Labrador, RBC. “Our partnership will continue to help addressing many of the barriers often faced by young people when trying to access the supports and educational resources they need to succeed.”
