Mandate:

The REAL program is a nonprofit that relies on community support to create life-changing opportunities for children and youth in financial need. The City of St. John’s provides space and staff support so that 100% of your donation funds the programs, equipment and support they need to thrive.

Application deadlines: Summer: April 17 Fall: July 17 Winter/Spring: November 17  

Do you qualify for REAL? 

  • To participate in the REAL program, you must meet these qualifications:

    • You must be a resident of St. John’s. Please provide a document that matches the address on the application.
    • You must provide proof of income for your family. Your Notice of Assessment is preferred (line 150). Contact the REAL Program for other acceptable statements of income.

Guidelines to Apply:

  1. The REAL Program accepts applications seasonally. Apply by the deadline date for each season.
  2. Children and youth get one free activity each season.
    • A separate application for each child and each season is required.
    • Applications are not carried over from one season to the next.
  3. This is a service for children and youth currently not enrolled in paid or funded recreation programs.
  4. Resources and placements are limited and often in high demand. If a child is placed in an activity, they must attend. If they cannot attend or participate, the parent or guardian must contact the REAL Program.
  5. If transportation or equipment is required, contact must be made with the REAL Program as soon as possible.
