Mandate:

To help adults remove barriers to participating in their community. Barriers can include: mental health issues; addictions; poverty; criminal justice involvement; homelessness; low literacy; and periods of unemployment. Transforming lives through Real Homes, Real Help and Real Work. 

Target Population:

Men and women age 18 and older; women ages 16-30 (Naomi Centre).

Highlights of Programs/Services Offered:

Real Homes Program 

Real Homes: Safe, secure and stable housing is essential to wellbeing. Stella’s Circle helps address the need for affordable housing by offering more than 100 housing units to rent and supportive housing for those who need it. Programs include: 

Brian Martin Housing Resource Centre

  • Offers counselling, advocacy, and other support services to help people find secure housing  
  • Open 9:00am-4:30pm; Monday-Friday 
  • Monday to Thursday from 1:30-3:30 pm, we offer Housing Help – we invite anyone to drop in to ask questions of our staff or to use our resources to search for housing. 
  • Accepts self-referrals or referrals from others including health care providers, family counselling agencies, government departments, or family and friends of individuals needing housing assistance. There is no application or form to complete; simply drop in or contact us for assistance. 

Naomi Centre

  • An emergency shelter that offers safe and supportive temporary housing for women aged 16-29 within a harm reduction model. 
  • Accepts self-referrals or referrals from others including health care providers, family counselling agencies, government departments, or family and friends of individuals needing emergency housing.

  • Transitional housing program for women 18+ in recovery 
  • Up to three women share a house, live independently, and care for their own needs.

Real Help Program 

Real Help: Stella’s Circle offers a range of residential, community and correctional based counselling services to support people through life’s challenges. Stella’s Circle believes that with the necessary supports people can flourish. Programs include: 

Emmanuel House

  • Men and women over the age of 18 can live while they address their social and emotional challenges.  
  • Participants stay for a multi-week period and take part in individual counselling, therapeutic groups, and life skills support. 
  • We accept self-referrals or referrals from others. 

Community Support Program (CSP)

  • Provides intensive assistance to men and women with complex mental health needs over the age of 25. 
  • The goal of the program is to improve the overall quality of participants’ lives, and to reduce the length and number of admissions to hospitals and prisons. 

Just Us Women’s Centre

  • Provides counseling and support to women over the age of 18 who have been in conflict with the law.  
  • We accept self-referrals or referrals from others including correctional supervision programs, court programs, health care providers, and agencies that provide services to women. 

Real Work

Real Work: Stella’s Circle offers a range of employment and education programs to assist people with limited work experience or interrupted career paths find and maintain employment. Programs include: 

Employment Counselling & Support Transition Groups

  • Stella’s Circle assesses participants for employment potential, career decision making and provides individual counselling and support
  • Help participants build their interpersonal and work based skills enabling them to be successful in the workplace
  • Offer groups on: Skills Discovery, Employment Motivation and Work Orientation Workshops. The groups range from four to twelve weeks based on an initial assessment of an individual’s goals and needs

Adult Basic Education (ABE) Level 1:

  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) Level I offers basic literacy and numeracy education in a supportive environment through delivery of standardized provincial government curriculum.  

Work Experience:

  • We offer practical workplace-based learning to suit individual participant interests, needs and abilities. These placements provide opportunities for future employment and ensure a suitable fit for employer and employee. We offer social enterprise training and employment in three streams:
    • The Hungry Heart Café offers training to help people enter the food service industry as cooks, servers, or kitchen staff. 
    • The Trades Helper Program allows participants to gain practical experience in the construction trades. 
    • Clean Start provides on-the-job training in office cleaning and maintenance.
