Mandate:
The Gathering Place is a Community Health Care Centre committed to building community, promoting equity, and providing food, clothing, housing and shelter, medical and dental help. and counselling services to vulnerable individuals in and around St. John’s, NL. The programs and services of The Gathering Places are offered primarily to people who are food and or/housing insecure, often unemployed, and without adequate social supports. Services are available in an inclusive, low barrier setting.
Target Population:
All adults over the age of 26.
Highlights of Programs/Services Offered:
Meal Program: Three meals a day, seven days a week in the dining room or through the takeout window (Breakfast 8:00am-9:00am, Lunch 11:30am-1:00pm, Support 5:00pm-6:00pm).
Laundry Services: Washers and dryers are available on a sign-up basis seven days per week.
Shower Services: Showers are available on a signup basis during regular business hours.
Case Management: Social work staff are available to assist with health, housing, and income needs as well as navigational services.
Housing: Overnight shelter is open from 8pm – 7:45am. Referrals are through the Emergency Shelter Line at 1-833-724-4444. Mercy House offers both transitional and supportive housing designed to encourage personal growth, life skills, and community engagement.
Boutique: Provides clothing and toiletry items free of charge to registered Guests.
Health Services: Registered Guests may book appointments for the weekly onsite medical clinic or dental clinic.
Guest Empowerment: Offers a range of programs and activities, including arts/crafts, music, DVD/book exchanges, cooking classes, and self-help/skill development groups.
Access to Learning: Offers instruction in foundational reading, writing, digital literacy, and life skills.
